Between the shadows
The sun is low, yet blinding in its force.
Until today I'd never understood
How light can stream, like water gushing forth
To cleanse and burn.
That first taste of hot, sweet, vivant tea
Lived up to expectations; a drink to
Soothe, evoke the past, reviving thoughts
Resting dormant.
Smiles surface all around, discriminating
Not against one's station or position
But blessing all of those who chose a life
Between the shadows.
And here I stand, years later, basking in the view
Of what has passed, deliberately forgetting
Why and how I stayed; not because of you
Bu sunburnt promises.
